Baringshoudingen

There are several positions that you can adopt during labour. For both the dilation and during pushing, you should try to find a position that you feel comfortable with. The KNOV (Royal Dutch Organization of Midwives) has developed a number of leaflets in preparation for childbirth. One of these leaflets discusses all postures. Click here for the brochure

Examples of ways you can give birth:
  • lying on your back with your legs drawn up
  • lying on your back with your legs in bed
  • lying on your side
  • standing
  • on your haunches
  • on hands and knees
  • on the birthing stool
  • in Bath
If you already know in advance how you plan to give birth, discuss this with us. We advise you not to get too attached to that, because you never know in advance how you will feel at the moment of delivery and what you like then. In principle, you can give birth with us the way you want. If we have a reason why we advise against or recommend a certain attitude, we will also explain this to you.
