The maternity period

The birth is over. You have become parents, congratulations!
It's time to party now, but it's also time to rest. The maternity period is intended to recover from your birth and to get used to your baby and the new family situation. Your child also needs time to relax and get used to his/her new environment.
You will receive care from both us and the maternity care. The maternity period is pleasant, but also hectic. During the maternity week, a lot will come at you: very beautiful moments with your newborn child, but also a new rhythm and new emotions. You may also experience physical symptoms during the initial period after childbirth.

Fortunately, during the first week after the birth, a maternity nurse is available every day for a few hours to help you. Her tasks consist of:
  • Mother and child checks
  • Advice and help with the care of your child
  • Education
  • Help and advice with breastfeeding/bottle feeding
  • Attention and care for the other family members
  • Light household chores
Maternity care is part of the basic package of your insurance. However, the number of hours depends on your insurance package. If you are not additionally insured, a personal contribution per hour will be charged.

During the maternity week, as a midwife, we are your point of contact and responsible for the health of you and your baby. Even if you give birth in hospital on medical grounds, we are there for you when you return home.
The maternity nurse will perform a number of checks on a daily basis. She reports this to us.
We visit a few times during the maternity week. We will then discuss how the delivery went, provide information and answer your questions. We also check the check-ups of mother and child and discuss the progress of breast or bottle feeding. The maternity care will contact us if there are any particularities or uncertainties. If you have any questions, doubts or uncertainties, you can of course also contact us directly. The midwife on duty is available day and night.
We close the maternity bed around the 8th-10th day. The care for the baby is then taken over by the consultation office and for you by the general practitioner.

If you are being monitored by a gynaecologist in the hospital and you are going to give birth there, you will need an obstetrician for the checkups during your maternity bed. You can contact us for this during the telephone consultation hour or via the registration form† If desired, we will then schedule an appointment at our office to get to know one of us.
