Pregnancy Ailments

Hemorrhoids

Many women develop hemorrhoids during pregnancy or after giving birth. Pregnancy hormones cause slackening of the vessel walls of the blood vessels, this also happens in the blood vessels around the anus. The pressure on the pelvic floor also increases. For example, hemorrhoids can develop spontaneously during pregnancy. In addition, you see more often that pregnant women have difficulty with their bowel movements, 'constipation'. This increases the pressure and thus the risk of hemorrhoids. Getting hemorrhoids is almost impossible to prevent. The hemorrhoids often disappear on their own after childbirth. A good bowel movement can limit the complaints. A hemorrhoid ointment such as Curanol can also help.

Tire pain

Tire pain feels like a stabbing pain on the side of the lower abdomen, sometimes also towards the groin. This pain is caused by the growth of the uterus. The uterus is held in place by bands, which are a type of muscle. The growth puts a lot of stretch and pressure on the ligaments and this can cause pain. Tire pain is not harmful. You can try to reduce it by wearing firm underwear to support the abdomen. Heat can also provide pain relief, such as a warm bath/shower or hot water bottle.

Pelvic and back pain

Nosebleed/bleeding gums

During pregnancy, the blood circulation in the mucous membranes increases under the influence of pregnancy hormones. The walls of the blood vessels also become somewhat weaker, making them more vulnerable. This makes it easier for a pregnant woman to get a nosebleed or bleeding gums. This is harmless unless you have very frequent, prolonged or heavy blood loss. Please discuss this with your doctor or midwife.

hair changes

Libido (sense of love)

Making love is allowed during pregnancy, this can do no harm to the baby. The desire to have sex can change during pregnancy. At the beginning of pregnancy, many women often have less desire to have sex. In the course of pregnancy this changes back to a normal to increased libido. At the end of pregnancy, the libido decreases again. This can also differ per woman.

Gastric acid

mood swings

Stria

Stretch marks are the so-called stretch marks. These are caused by the stretching of the skin, causing it to show cracks. The color is bluish-red (showing through the blood vessels). After the pregnancy, scars remain, which fade. Stretch marks mainly appear on the abdomen, on the outside of the thighs and sometimes on the breasts. In addition to stretch (elasticity), factors such as predisposition and hormones can also influence the development of stretch marks. Unfortunately, stretch marks cannot be prevented. Contrary to what the advertisements suggest, expensive lotions cannot prevent stretch marks. If you do want to rub yourself in, you can also do this with a regular body lotion.
